Giving Something Back 2018

Bibby Singapore colleagues sing to care home residents

The team at Bibby Singapore  decided to visit the Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home in Singapore this Autumn for their Giving Something Back event in 2018. The nursing home provides quality care at an affordable price and relies on donations and support from individuals and companies. Our colleagues visited the home, which cares for the needy and sick in Singapore regardless of race, language and religion, on 21 Sept where they spent time with the residents, most of whom have some level of dementia.  They brought gifts, food and even a magician to perform tricks for them. They also encouraged the residents to sing with them as food and music are said to be the best therapies for those with memory loss.

The residents' ages range from mid-thirties to 106 and the team enjoyed entertaining them. For those that wanted to get involved, they sang together using a portable karaoke microphone before providing everyone with a delicious lunch which included mooncakes as food therapy to help bring back memories.

The gifts included 110 pairs of DIY anti-slip socks by the Bibby Singapore team to provide warmth during cooler months, skin care products for the female residents and also handkerchiefs for the male residents.

"This Giving Something Back event has given every one of us an opportunity to experience and see for ourselves what a nursing home is like," says Hallie Tay, Business Development Manager at BFS in Singapore. "It shows how fortunate we are, as well as how the little things we do can make a big difference in someone else’s life. It was definitely a memorable experience for all of us."
